Note
Attending NY Fashion Week 2024 Spring/Summer for the first time, fashion designer and professor Naoko Tosa (affiliated with Art Innovation at the Disaster Prevention Research Institute of Kyoto University) has festival chairman Ichiya Nakamura model along with providing fittings for Kyoto University’s female science students. Meanwhile, men from the university are busy sewing clothes using the eight industrial sewing machines located in the university’s lab. This talk show will explore how creative approaches in different industries have led to breakthroughs in the fashion industry.
There will also be a big-screen showing of Naoko Tosa’s art piece Sound of Ikebana, which captures the momentary Invisible Beauty captured from sounds of flowers and ikebana along with high-speed camera footage showing fluids in various states as they react to the vibrations of sound. In addition, this event will introduce footage from clothing at the NY Fashion Week Runway using Epson digital textile dyeing technology. A workshop will also take place where attendees can think about the future possibilities of fashion.
